This photograph presents the Tungsten Trolley doing its mode down Upland Parkland 's 3rd downtown, Monte View Street. ( Figueroa Street and York Avenue being the the other two. ) As narrow a street as Monte Scene is, it was a main street back in 1941 because the City of the angels Railroad ( The Yellowness Cars
) runned a trolley down the heart of it.

Monte Vista Street and Avenue 56 Today. Photographer known.

Monte Aspect Street and Avenue 56 Today. Lensman cognise.

This exposure holded stumped me awhile. I cognized it get on Monte Prospect, but without still-existing landmarks, it rested a secret. What nailed it for me are the two manholes on the right. ( Typically utility accession points in a metropolis make n't modify without a really good ground. ) Too assisting work the secret is the slight rise of wall street in the background at Avenue 57, and the presence of the four-way halt sign up the corner. ( Long before nighly every intersection in 90042 holded one. ) One more thing that was here in 1941 was the low two-foot-tall Fe fencing that can barely be seen among the shrubs on the corner to the right. That small 75-year-old Fe fencing was replaced merely 4 months ago by the taller, less-ornate Fe one seen here today.

Gone is the house on the left. Replaced sometime in the 1960s when All Saints maked a new church. The residue of the houses on it block were pulverized and replaced with apartments. The tidings racks rest on the corner halt mark are no more there. The tall eucalypt in the background on the corner of 57, and wall street trees on the right are locomoted. ( But the buckled pavement there still rests. ) One thing to mention about the two photos of Monte View and Avenue 56, is that they both demonstrate a Upland Parkland tradition: Litter.

Monte Aspect Street was formed into a nice balance of local stores and civic center originally. One terminal of Monte Panorama was reign by churches, most of which are still there today. There is Full-screen

Immanuel United Methodists on AshSt. and Ave 55, Full-screen

All Saints Episcopal Church on Ave 56,
Temple Beth Israel at 57. Where the Gold Wheel Buddhist Monastery at Ave 58 is today was originally the Upland Parkland Christian Church, so there is Upland Parkland Baptist on 59, and Full-screen

St Ignatius Roman catholic on the terminal of Monte View at Avenue 61.

The other terminal of Monte Aspect from Avenue 50 to 56 was a street full of little concerns, eatery, marketplaces, cleansers, apartments and houses. On the southwesterly corner of Monte Scene and Avenue 55 where the asphalt playground of Monte Prospect Elementary is today, was the original Boy 's Marketplace. Boy 's for decenniums was a major supermarket concatenation in City of the angels until finally being buy up by Kroger ( Ralph 's ) in the 1990s. The supposed Boys
-the Goldstein brothers, were too laminitises of the nearby Temple Beth Sion, Upland Parkland 's only Jewish house of prayer.

P141 Airline offices. Locations and telephone Numbers. These rather frequently modify.

Ethiopian. Hilton, Churchill opposite Subject Theater, Alem Edifice drome terminal of Bole Rd.

BMI, KLM, Kenyan - in Hilton

Emirates - in Dembel City center Promenade - Bole Rd, at Olympia

Lufthansa - on Urael to Medhane Alem Route - on right presently after leaving Urael intersection.

Saudi-Arabian - following to AmbassadorCinema

Turkish - too on Urael to Medhane Alem route, but at Bole terminal between Swiss Caf and Brass Clinic

Yemenia - in city center - virtually opposite Embassador Celluloid. Airline

Phone numbers - according to "Whats Out Addis" 09/09 BMI 011 6620815/16 Egyptair 011 1122565 Emirates 011 5181818 Ethipian 011 6656666 Kenyan 011 5518400 KLM 011 5525495 Lufthansa 011 5515666/75 Saudi 011 5517746 Turkish 011 6627781/82 Yemenia 011 5515076

P142 You tell the central city is like a rectangle - I completely concord. BUT why hold the top corners as the Hilton and Teodros foursquare?? This excepts the Gibbe or Old Castle, Prime Ministers Office, Parliament Edifice, Three and St Georges Cathedral, andPiazza..all of which are indispensable parts of the sprawling city center of Addis. Occupiers here consider of it as a tall rectangle - underside corners as you tell are Mexico and Maskal..... ( no one really names it Abbiot any more )... but the north east corner is Arat Kilogram and North west corner is Plaza. It is these 4 spots which are the major finishes of minibus itineraries into the metropolis. ( BUT you will ne'er hear minibus boys shouting `` Maskal Maskal '' as incoming vehicles are not letted to halt there, so `` bowl '' is effective the halt for Maskal. ) p160 Agelgil - sadly this first-class eatery shutted in 2007.

p165 Infirmaries - 2 of the most modern, goodly equipped, and prized private infirmaries are Hayat - on circumferential merely northerly of airdrome. 011 6624488 Korean Christian Infirmary or MCM in Gurji -turn away circumferential at Imperial. 011 6295420

P168 3 Cathedral - tickets by payment at office in low edifices in main attack route ( as you near with Parliament build upon your right )

P168 minibus placed upwardly at Arat Kilogram is rattlingly organise and easy to understand compared to other Addis hubs. Utilize your map, get on the right route taking offly from round about. Listen for finishes. Parking limitations are tight at Arat K, so minibuses are not permited to halt approximately the roundabout so you will involve to walk 30 to 80 meter in your selected way. Minibuses locomoting south to Hilton, Bowl, ( for Maskal ), and Mexico are to be encountered both sides of roundabout. Those commencing from Arat line upwardly south of circle, those passing through Arat from Sidist Kelvin halt only northwardly of rotary by `` Sallys ''. Minibuses to Bole usually begin from Arat.

P169 Subject Museum - now holds the fantabulous `` Lucy '' coffeehouse in the evidences.

P170/171 - What you name the Museum of the Institute of Ethiopian Studies - correctly - is more commonly cognise in the metropolis and by Circuit Companies as `` the Ethnological Museum ''.

P172 St Georges Cathedral and Museum. Holidaymakers must pay at little edifice on Rh of compound. Museum revolve around the enthronisation of Ras tafari in 1930. Your included required usher will anticipate a tip....

Only two months after Atelier Rorona was relinquished and now we already hold word on the following Atelier rubric, Atelier Lina for the Nintendo Ds! Its official website
opened today. Atelier Lina will be the tertiary Atelier rubric to be relinquished on the Nintendo Ds following Atelier Annie and Atelier Lise. This clip I am able to bestride the expectancy bandwagon as I now possess a DSi unlike last clip when that other two was relinquished, it was entirely but orz in those years. Atelier Lina will be relinquished on the 22nd of December this yr.

On another note, I 'll be forth for the weekend to attend a cousin-german 's nuptials so there will be no entries so... though there likelily wo n't be any even if I were about judging from the oftenness of my update presents lol.

More hot dog fright mongering
[info]agunaldodntw

I 've addressed this earlierly, but since it declines to conk I considered I would repost an article from today 's Eye for Consumer Freedom newssheet:

As if money-hungry trial lawyers
and the Center for Science in the Public Interest were n't adequate. This forenoon, the bogus Cancer Task filed a lawsuit
inquiring the tribunal to demand a cancer-risk warning label on all hot dog packets sold in New NJ. There Holds no beef to its cancer claims, naturally, as the Associated Press and other media outlets pointed out during last yr 's hot dog panic run. But in case, we're offering reporters a little reminder today

As we 're saying the media, the Cancer Labor is a delusory spinoff of thewoefully misnamed Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine
- a grouping that is 96 pct unhampered existent medico. And together they 're phonier than a tofu dog.

From its creepy commercials
to last twelvemonth 's tasteless endeavour to capitalize on the death of a former White House Press Secretary
, PCRM and the Cancer Labor will halt at zip to frighten Americans into a PETA-approved diet. Even if it intends employing our legal system as a tool for its periphery ends - and blowing taxpayers ' money in the procedure.
